If You Let Them Think You’re a REAL
Mind Reader

InĀ 1995 I suffered a compound fracture of my right thumb. Up until then I had made my living as a sleight of hand artist. 9 weeks in a cast from my fingertips to my elbows. Tim helped me work out a mind reading act that I could do without the use of my right hand. Tremendous help. We were talking about the script for the show and he asked about a disclaimer. (In mentalism a disclaimer is a moment where you tell the audience that you are not psychic, that what they are seeing is not real mind reading, but the illusion of mind reading created by deception.) I said I didn’t think I wanted to use a disclaimer. Tim got very serious and told me how important he thought it was. “If you let them think you’re a REAL mind reader you’re not an entertainer anymore. You’re just a liar.” Tim was ethical to a fault. He hated liars.
